Located in northern Kenya, Samburu National Reserve offers an authentic, off-the-beaten-path safari experience. Known for its unique wildlife, stunning landscapes, and rich culture, Samburu is a must-visit for travelers seeking adventure and natural beauty.

Why Visit Samburu?
  1. Unique Wildlife:
Samburu is home to the "Samburu Special Five"—species found only in the northern part of Kenya. These include the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx. A visit to Samburu National Reserve promises encounters with these rare species alongside the Big Five.
  2. Authentic Culture:
The Samburu people are a semi-nomadic ethnic group with a rich cultural heritage. Visitors can immerse themselves in their traditions, learn about their lifestyle, and even experience authentic dances and rituals.
  3. Stunning Landscapes:
Samburu’s rugged terrain, with its dry riverbeds, rocky outcrops, and acacia forests, offers a unique and scenic backdrop for game drives. The Ewaso Ng'iro River, flowing through the reserve, provides life to the animals and adds a tranquil charm to the area.
Things to Do in Samburu
  • Game Drives:
Explore the reserve on a guided game drive to spot the incredible wildlife that thrives here. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times for wildlife sightings.
  • Cultural Visits:
Visit a Samburu village to learn about the fascinating traditions of the local people and their close relationship with the land and animals.
  • Bird Watching:
Samburu is a birdwatcher’s paradise with over 450 species recorded, including the vulturine guinea fowl and pale chanting goshawk.
When to Visit Samburu

The best time to visit is during the dry season (June to October), when wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather around the river and waterholes. The rainy season (November to April) brings lush landscapes and fewer crowds.
